Odor locks

An odor lock is a technical device used in natural gas pressure control and metering systems (PMS systems) and other gas-carrying systems. Its main purpose is to control the retention or discharge of odorous substances (odorants) added to natural gas for safety purposes during venting or draining of system components, in order to prevent unpleasant odors, false alarms, and environmental pollution. Background – Why is an odor lock needed? Natural gas is naturally odorless. For safety reasons, it is usually mixed with a strong odorant (e.g., THT – tetrahydrothiophene or mercaptans). This so-called odorant makes it possible to quickly detect gas leaks, even in the smallest quantities, by smell.
